Job Overview

As a Specimen Management Technician, you’ll support the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Trials Specimen Management (CTSM) Laboratory. You will be responsible for receiving, accessioning, processing, storing, and shipping clinical trial specimens while ensuring their integrity under a range of temperature-controlled environments.

Key Responsibilities of a Clinical Trials Specimen Management Technician

  • Receive and process specimens according to SOPs and regulatory standards
  • Perform QC checks and accurate data entry into laboratory systems
  • Handle cold chain materials, including -80°C and -196°C storage
  • Manage inventory and documentation for specimen storage and shipment
  • Monitor freezers and storage units using environmental monitoring software
  • Maintain clean lab conditions and assist in routine housekeeping
  • Walk samples between buildings as needed (150 & 160)
  • Assist with archival of specimen records and documentation
  • Work in rotating roles (Routine, Storage, Shipping teams) depending on lab needs

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field
  • Experience in lab environments or regulated healthcare settings
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS)
  • Strong data entry and organizational skills
  • Comfortable lifting and handling specimens, boxes, and dry ice
  • Able to adapt to changing priorities and collaborate in team settings

Physical Requirements

  • Medium Work: Must lift 20–50 lbs occasionally, 10–25 lbs frequently
  • Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and sample handling
  • Must be able to work in cold environments (freezers, dry ice, LN2)
