Job Description

As a Molecular Research Technician I, you will assist in performing molecular biology experiments to support research on MDROs. The role includes conducting DNA/RNA extraction, next-generation sequencing (NGS), serological and chemical assays, and maintaining laboratory safety standards. Youโ€™ll work closely with principal investigators, senior technicians, and laboratory managers to ensure accurate and timely research outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform molecular biology experiments, including nucleic acid isolation, bacterial culture work, and next-generation sequencing.
  • Follow SOPs and research protocols to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Conduct serological assays, PCR, and genetic/molecular biology procedures.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks with accurate and complete records.
  • Support lab operations, including preparation of reagents, safe disposal of biological/chemical waste, and inventory management.
  • Coordinate with senior technicians and provide results to research leads on time.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in seminars, scientific meetings, and MRSN (Multidrug-Resistant Organism Repository and Surveillance Network) activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree (BS) in Biology, Molecular Biology, or Microbiology preferred.
  • Experience with DNA extraction, sequencing library prep, Illumina or Oxford Nanopore platforms.
  • Foundational-level experience in NGS workflows, PCR, and bacterial sample handling.
  • Strong organizational, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Physical ability to perform laboratory tasks (standing, lifting to 50 lbs., occasional weekend duties).
  • Desired: 1โ€“3 years of experience in molecular biology or high-throughput sequencing.
  • Must pass the pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $52,000 โ€“ $58,000 (commensurate with experience).
