Job Description
- As a Microbiologist I โ Surge Support at Amentum, you will:
- Handle, receive, and process biological samples, including those that may contain threat agents.
- Perform microbiological and molecular testing, including DNA extraction and real-time PCR.
- Prepare reagents, samples, and maintain GLP compliance.
- Conduct decontamination of workspaces and equipment.
- Maintain a chain of custody (CoC) and interpret test results.
- Perform data entry, routine equipment calibration, and contamination monitoring.
- Properly dispose of biohazardous waste and maintain laboratory inventory.
- Ensure QA/QC compliance with laboratory standards and protocols.
- Archive samples and maintain proper documentation of records.
- Be available 24/7/365 for emergency reporting, including weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct molecular testing using real-time PCR and microbiological assays.
- Follow biosafety procedures, including workspace decontamination and the safe disposal of waste.
- Maintain accurate documentation for QA/QC and compliance with laboratory protocols.
- Perform equipment calibration, cleaning, and routine maintenance.
- Support BioWatch Laboratory Operations Quality Assurance Program Plan (QAPP).
- Ensure readiness for surge support operations in case of emergencies.
Qualifications
- Bachelorโs degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related biological science field.
- At least one year of professional laboratory bench experience outside academia.
- Hands-on experience with PCR, aseptic techniques, and biological assays.
- Familiarity with BSL-3 laboratory work preferred.
- Previous approval from the Public Health Laboratory or the BioWatch Laboratory Lead is desirable.
- Ability to obtain/maintain DHS Suitability security clearance.
