About the Role

The University of Warwick is seeking a Senior Research Technician with expertise in biochemistry, molecular genetics, or biological sciences. The position is part of Professor David Roper’s research group in the School of Life Sciences, focusing on altering, characterising, and understanding bacterial cellulose fibres and biofilms (SCOBYs) produced by Komagateibacter rhaeticus.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a multi-organisation synthetic biology project aimed at producing customizable bacterial cellulose using advanced molecular techniques.

Salary: £31,236 to £34,610 per annum

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide core technical support for molecular biology, molecular genetics, and biomaterial modification.
  • Assist with sample preparation for complex experiments including RNA-seq and biomaterial characterisation.
  • Work closely with project partners, demonstrating a proactive and collaborative approach.
  • Maintain laboratory standards, records, and contribute to smooth project operations.

About You

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in biochemistry, biological sciences, or a related field.
  • Strong laboratory-based research experience.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Desirable expertise in molecular biology, biomaterial post-processing, and genetics.
  • Must be a UK national or resident in the UK for the past 5 years (due to security clearance requirements).
  • Ability to start by 1st October 2025.
