PhD Scholars Job Description:

The Scientific Officer will support the Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit in Heidelberg, assisting with general laboratory tasks and conducting biophysical experiments. The role involves managing lab resources, assisting with cell culture, generating stable cell lines, and performing biophysical techniques, such as atomic force microscopy, to study cellular mechanical properties. This is a part-time, fixed-term (1 year) position with an attractive compensation and benefits package.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain general laboratory resources.
  • Support lab members with cell culture work and the generation of stable cell lines.
  • Perform molecular cloning techniques (e.g., restriction cloning, Gibson assembly).
  • Conduct biophysical experiments, including atomic force microscopy.
  • Assist in data visualization, presentation, and reporting.

PhD Scholars Job – Educational Qualifications

PhD in Life Sciences or Biophysics.

Experience and Skills

  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology and cell biology techniques.
  • Familiarity with biophysical measurement methods (atomic force microscopy preferred).
  • Experience with micropatterning of cell substrates is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and reporting skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; German not required.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
