About the Division
At Thermo Fisher Scientific, our Microbiology Division (MBD) discovers microbiological solutions for infectious disease diagnosis and bacterial contamination detection. We serve clinical, pharmaceutical, food, and environmental laboratories with market-leading culture media, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and molecular solutions.
How Will You Make an Impact?
As a QC Associate Scientist, you will ensure all media products meet strict quality standards before release to laboratories and clinical or industrial applications. This includes testing raw materials, in-process samples, and finished culture media, guaranteeing consistency, compliance, and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform quality control testing according to Oxoid specifications.
- Conduct Level 1, 2, and 3 microbiology testing methods.
- Prepare media and complete OOS reports with investigation support.
- Maintain accurate training and testing records in the SAP Quality Management System.
- Plan, track, and communicate product testing progress and availability.
- Escalate product problems/failures to senior staff for resolution.
- Ensure lab compliance with company quality systems and ISO standards.
- Perform waste management, cleaning, autoclave use, and consumable replenishment.
- Collaborate across teams, including QC, QA, Manufacturing Sciences, Production, and Customer Services.
- Support continuous improvement using PPI Lean methodologies.
- Demonstrate Thermo Fisher 4I values in daily decision-making.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Level 6 qualification (or equivalent) in Microbiology or related subject.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- High attention to detail with a systematic approach.
- Ability to follow SOPs accurately and maintain compliance.
- Strong numeracy skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Significant QC testing experience in a microbiology lab.
- Calm and methodical under pressure.
- Experience with SAP and MS Office.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Skilled in laboratory techniques (pipetting, swabbing, streaking, plate pouring).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate across functions.
