Educational Requirements for the Microbiologist Role:

  • BS in Microbiology or related field OR equivalent industry experience
  • 2โ€“4 years of relevant experience in an FDA-regulated pharmaceutical environment (preferred)
  • Knowledge of cGMP/GLP standards
  • Strong ability to follow written procedures and SOPs

Key Responsibilities of the Microbiologist:

  • Perform GMP testing for raw materials, in-process and finished products, stability samples, and non-routine analyses
  • Record GMP data and monitor QC systems and laboratory equipment
  • Implement procedural improvements and revise SOPs and GMP documentation
  • Conduct sterility and endotoxin testing for raw materials, in-process, and final products
  • Maintain sterility and endotoxin testing areas in full cGMP compliance
  • Conduct growth promotion testing for microbial culture media
  • Perform microbial identification for product and environmental testing
  • Sample raw materials for QC testing
  • Monitor water systems, environmental chambers, and lab instruments/equipment
  • Maintain paper-based or electronic testing records
  • Author and execute method validation protocols and summary reports
  • Prepare deviation and microbiological assessment reports
  • Review microbiology testing data and coordinate sample receipt
  • Track and maintain metrics for sample processing
  • Provide technical support on product testing and instrumentation
  • Liaise with service, calibration, and technical representatives
  • Conduct and document assay failure investigations and complaint assessments
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Skills Required for the Microbiologist Role:

  • Experience with pharmaceutical microbiology techniques (sterility, bioburden, endotoxin, microbial ID, validation, environmental monitoring)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheets
  • Ability to follow detailed SOPs and written instructions
  • Working knowledge of cGMP/GLP standards
  • Skilled in both standard and complex microbiology methods
