Program Overview

The BioMarin Summer Internship Program (10โ€“12 weeks) provides hands-on, meaningful experience within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Interns work alongside scientists on real projects that support drug development. The Bioanalytical Sciences (BAS) department develops and executes analytical assays supporting discovery through late-stage clinical trials. The Assay Strategy & Development (AS&D) group is offering a lab-focused internship contributing directly to translational research.

Job Description / Project

The intern will:

  • Work closely with a BAS Scientist on a dedicated research project.
  • Gain experience in cell biology, molecular biology, and protein biochemistry.
  • Apply techniques such as immunoassays, flow cytometry, qPCR, and mass spectrometry.
  • Design, perform, and interpret experiments.
  • Present project updates and a final summary at the end of the program.

What You Will Learn in This Life Science Internship

  • Conduct bench experiments under Scientist mentorship.
  • Apply lab techniques (ELISA/immunoassays, qPCR, flow cytometry, protein analysis, MS).
  • Maintain detailed electronic lab notebook records.
  • Participate in group meetings and present research progress.
  • Support a safe, compliant, and collaborative lab environment.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest in a laboratory-based scientific career.

  • Ability to relocate/work onsite or hybrid at the designated site.
