The Microbiology Laboratory conducts full-service specimen collection, processing, and diagnostic testing, including bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, virology, parasitology, smear interpretation, and molecular testing. The lab operates 24/7, supporting OSUMC patients, clients, and the community. Strong written and verbal communication is essential for effective collaboration with staff and clients.
Position Summary:
The Microbiology Technologist performs specimen processing, test request entry, order verification, and complete clinical microbiology testing. Duties include interpreting smears and cultures, conducting identification and susceptibility tests, and performing specialized AFB, mycology, virology, parasitology, and molecular diagnostics. The role also involves quality control, inventory management, training, continuous improvement, and participation in ongoing education.
