Position Overview
The Histotechnologist I performs skilled and accurate specimen cutting under supervision, manages specimen workflows, supports quality operations, and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties of Biological Science Jobs in US
- Maintain high-quality standards to prevent issues affecting test accuracy or safety.
- Escalate concerns to management for timely resolution.
- Perform routine and non-routine histology tasks, including sectioning and H&E staining.
- Conduct macro-dissection under supervision.
- Monitor workflow queues and process specimens efficiently.
- Prepare reagents, solutions, and controls.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.
- Support sample returns and interact with internal/external stakeholders per SOPs.
- Process specimens for R&D studies.
- Assist in identifying process improvement opportunities.
- Support SOP, workflow, and protocol development.
- Contribute to equipment setup and maintenance.
- Train R&D staff in histopathology techniques.
- Provide summary reports and support inspection/regulatory activities.
- Participate in development projects and assist with new product/process initiatives.
- Demonstrate strong communication, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize quality results.
- Work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Maintain regular attendance and uphold company mission and values.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to work seated ~75% and standing ~25% of the workday.
- Able to lift up to 25 lbs ~10% of the workday.
- Frequent use of hands for fine motor tasks and lab instruments.
- Ability to use microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, pipettes, etc.
- Comfortable working with biological and hazardous materials.
- Ability to travel between Redwood City locations.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
Minimum Qualifications for Biological Science Jobs in US
- Associate Degree.
- 2+ years of histology lab experience, including cutting, embedding, and routine staining.
- Ability to perform all essential duties with or without accommodation.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. (Exact Sciences cannot sponsor visas).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelorโs degree in Biological or Life Sciences.
- ASCP certification (HT or HTL).
