Educational Requirements for the Microbiologist Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 1–2 years of relevant microbiology experience in a medical device environment, OR
  • Master’s degree (MS or equivalent) with 0–2 years of relevant experience

Key Responsibilities of the Microbiologist:

  • Serve as the microbiology representative on medical device project teams

  • Provide input on microbiological testing timelines, costs, and reporting

  • Create, revise, and maintain microbiology procedures, forms, and study protocols

  • Assist with investigations related to test method issues and limit excursions

  • Conduct NCEP and CAPA investigations for non-conforming events

  • In this Microbiologist Role, you have to perform routine microbiological testing including:

    • Environmental monitoring (airborne particulate and microbial)

    • Surface and water systems testing

    • Compressed gas testing

  • Accurately document and analyze test results

  • Act as a technical liaison with internal and external laboratories

  • Support laboratory continuous improvement initiatives in this Microbiologist Role

  • Develop and execute equipment qualification and validation plans

  • Coordinate equipment calibration and preventive maintenance

  • Maintain laboratory operations including sample log-in, supplies, cleaning, and equipment upkeep

  • Support occasional site travel (up to 20 miles) and extended work hours as required

Skills Required for the Microbiologist Role:

  • Strong knowledge of microbiology and ISO-controlled environments
  • Experience with environmental monitoring and microbial testing
  • Familiarity with CAPA, NCEP, and investigation processes
  • Ability to develop and execute testing plans and technical reports
  • Excellent documentation and data analysis skills
  • Strong time management, organization, and planning abilities
  • Effective communication with cross-functional teams and external labs
