Laboratory Technician Job Summary
The Laboratory Technician I supports high-throughput genomics operations by performing sample processing, DNA extraction, and platform-specific workflows. This role utilizes molecular biology techniques, automated systems, and scientific instrumentation to generate high-quality genomic data in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform sample and reagent preparation, DNA extraction/isolation, and quality analysis prior to genotyping
- Execute high-throughput workflows across primary and secondary genomics platforms
- Operate and maintain automated laboratory equipment, including liquid handling robots and multichannel pipettes
- Generate and analyze initial laboratory data from molecular biology techniques and instrumentation
- Maintain accurate documentation, including lab notebooks, LIMS entries, lot tracking, and sample archives
- Assist in training technicians, assistants, and interns
- Support process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and throughput
- Manage ordering and inventory of reagents, supplies, and consumables
- Perform instrument calibration and preventive maintenance
- Follow SOPs, ISO procedures, and laboratory safety standards
- Maintain a clean, compliant, and safe laboratory environment
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications For Laboratory Technician Jobs
- Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biology, or related life sciences
- Laboratory experience with molecular biology techniques and automated systems
- Familiarity with DNA extraction, PCR, and genotyping workflows
- Experience operating and troubleshooting automated liquid handling or robotic platforms
- Working knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
- Strong attention to detail and consistency in high-throughput environments
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Equivalent education and experience combinations may be considered
