Educational Requirements for the Regulatory Affairs Specialist Role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Biology, Regulatory Science, or a related technical field preferred
- Internship or relevant experience in labelling or regulatory compliance may be considered in lieu of a formal degree
Key Responsibilities of the Regulatory Affairs Specialist:
- Monitor regulatory developments and compile applicable food regulations across European markets
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date regulatory databases for assigned regions
- Assess current and future regulatory status of new and existing ingredients and additives
- Research safety, acceptability, and regulatory interpretations for products and ingredients
- Ensure ingredient formulations and product labelling comply with applicable laws and regulations
- Prepare and submit documentation to regulatory authorities and external agencies
- Support regulatory responses to inquiries from authorities and stakeholders
- Substantiate product and marketing claims and support approval of new ingredients
- Participate in regional Scientific & Regulatory Affairs projects and initiatives
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure product quality, compliance, and risk mitigation
Skills Required for the Regulatory Affairs Specialist Role:
- Strong understanding of food regulatory compliance and labelling requirements
- Knowledge of product quality custodianship, risk & opportunity identification
- Familiarity with product, packaging, and process design principles
- Experience working in regulatory affairs within food, beverage, or consumer goods sectors
- Ability to manage change and work effectively in ambiguous environments
- Strong analytical, documentation, and regulatory interpretation skills
- Digital mindset with experience leveraging AI or digital tools to improve efficiency
- Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
