Position Overview
The Microbiology Intern will support Food Safety & Quality Assurance projects, gaining hands-on experience in microbiology, food safety research, and data analysis. Interns will complete project-based work and present findings at the end of the internship.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct food safety and microbiology research
- Support microbial kill-step validation studies
- Perform risk assessments on products, processes, and ingredients
- Conduct ingredient and product testing
- Assist with experimental design and data analysis
- Support spoilage mitigation strategies
- Prepare and present project outcomes
Minimum Qualifications for Microbiology Internship
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in Food Science, Food Microbiology, Microbiology, or a related biological science
- Proficiency in aseptic technique and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
- Experience with microbiological sample analysis and experimental setup
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently
Duration & Schedule
- Length: 10–12 weeks
- Traditional work week with Summer Fridays (8:00 AM – 12:30 PM)
- Flexibility required for project travel, experimental runs, or customer discovery
