About the Microbiologist Role

Diageo is seeking a Microbiologist to join the Beer Manufacturing team at the Runcorn Guinness Packaging Site. This site operates 24/7 with multiple bottling, canning, and kegging lines producing over 23 million cases annually. The role supports full compliance with brewing standards, food safety legislation, and quality systems across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and positive-release microbiological testing across the site
  • Conduct aseptic sampling, plating, staining, microscopy, and product testing
  • Prepare analytical reagents and manage laboratory consumables
  • Participate in microbiological ring schemes and internal/external audits
  • Support Quality Sample Plans and food safety certifications (FSSC 22000, ISO 9000)
  • Contribute to commercialisation trials and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provide cross-functional support within the wider Quality team as required

About You for the Microbiologist Role

  • Degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or related scientific discipline
  • Practical experience with classical microbiology techniques
  • Strong understanding of GMP standards
  • Experience in analytical, microbiological, or manufacturing environments
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and relationship-building abilities
  • Beverage manufacturing experience is an advantage
