Educational Requirements for the Food Scientist Role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or Meat Science, or
- 2–4 years of related food industry experience, or
- Master’s/PhD with 0–2 years of experience
Key Responsibilities of the Food Scientist:
- Support development of new food products and improvement of existing products
- Conduct lab, pilot plant, and manufacturing trials with minimal guidance
- Execute projects focused on new product development, cost optimization, and quality improvements
- Ensure compliance with food safety, regulatory, and GMP requirements
- Document all development work, including lab experiments and plant trials
- Prepare accurate product specifications (materials, formulas, processes, finished products)
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, QA, Purchasing, and Operations
- Lead product showings and evaluate sensory and consumer feedback
- Support commercialization and brand maintenance activities
Skills Required for the Food Scientist Role:
- Strong understanding of the product development lifecycle
- Knowledge of ingredients, functionality, allergens, and cost implications
- Familiarity with food manufacturing processes and commercialization
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams effectively
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with sensory testing, consumer testing, and costing
- Ability to work independently on multiple projects
