Educational Requirements for Lab Technician Role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Dairy Science, Food Science, or related field (preferred)
- Combination of relevant education and work experience considered
- Minimum 2+ years of related QA or laboratory experience
Key Responsibilities of the Lab Technician:
- Perform laboratory testing using standardized methods to verify food safety and quality attributes
- Interpret test results and identify issues promptly to prevent non-conforming products
- Conduct microbial testing using petrifilm plates (water, air, ingredient, product samples)
- Perform environmental pathogen testing and submit results for product approval
- Evaluate raw ingredients and packaging materials for quality compliance
- Calibrate laboratory and production equipment at scheduled intervals
- Clean and sterilize lab equipment and workspaces to prevent contamination
- Conduct equipment swab testing and sanitation verification
- Maintain finished product and testing reports
- Coach production associates on GMPs, sanitation, and quality standards
- Audit batching, processing, and filler documentation
- Coordinate communication between QA, production, warehouse, and co-pack vendors
- Follow all safety, PPE, GMP, and chemical handling requirements
Skills Required for the Lab Technician Role:
- Strong knowledge of food safety, GMPs, and laboratory testing procedures
- Experience with microbial testing and environmental monitoring
- Ability to interpret analytical data and resolve quality issues
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Physically able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to work in allergen-controlled environments
