About the Role

McCain Foods is seeking a Regulatory Affairs Specialist to support regulatory compliance across Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). In this role, you will ensure food products meet applicable regulatory standards by reviewing ingredients, formulations, labels, and marketing claims. You will collaborate closely with R&D, Marketing, Procurement, and other cross-functional teams while staying current on evolving food legislation.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to apply regulatory expertise within a global food manufacturing environment, with exposure to product development and commercial decision-making.

Location flexibility: Melbourne or Ballarat, with occasional travel between sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the in-house regulatory expert for Australian and New Zealand food legislation
  • Review product ingredients, formulations, and labels for regulatory compliance
  • Support new product development, reformulations, and marketing claims
  • Monitor and interpret legislative and regulatory changes impacting food products
  • Develop and maintain procedures for formula and label approval
  • Promote regulatory awareness through training initiatives and stakeholder engagement
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities as required
  • Communicate regulatory best practices and recommend compliant regulatory positions
  • Ensure business continuity through proactive regulatory compliance activities

Qualifications & Experience for Food Science Job

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Food Science or a related technical discipline
  • 1–3 years’ experience in Regulatory Affairs, ideally within a large or global food manufacturing organization
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Food product composition
    • Marketing claims substantiation
    • Food labelling requirements
  • Strong understanding of food safety standards, including microbiological and contaminant controls
