Scientist Job Role Overview
The R&D Product Development Senior Scientist acts as a technical leader for value engineering and productivity initiatives across the LATAM beverages portfolio. This role involves leading bench-top development of ingredients, formulations, and processes while supporting the execution of the three-year value engineering pipeline. The scientist will also play a critical role in Technical Brand Stewardship by driving formula development from the laboratory through commercialization. Close collaboration with cross-functional R&D partners—including Quality, Regulatory, Sensory, and Commercialization Engineering—and regional business teams such as Innovation, Operations, and Marketing is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, planning, and execution of formula development projects from bench-top to commercialization, providing technical leadership and project management across cross-functional and global teams.
- Develop, document, and maintain bench-top value engineering projects, including prototypes, formulations, specifications, and validation activities, ensuring compliance with PepsiCo R&D protocols.
- Manage and track product development timelines to ensure on-time delivery in alignment with extended and cross-functional teams.
- Coordinate and execute pilot plant trials, addressing technical challenges and troubleshooting issues during scale-up.
Qualifications For Scientist Job
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Food Science, Food Process Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3–5 years of R&D experience in the food or beverage industry, with hands-on involvement in product or formula development.
- Proven ability to deliver results while managing multiple priorities and navigating ambiguity.
- Demonstrated capability to lead technical initiatives and collaborate effectively across cross-functional and regional teams.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Fluent in English and Spanish, with experience working in virtual, multicultural environments and using project management tools.
