Microbiology Job Summary

The Senior Specialist, QRC manages responsibilities related to Hershey’s Ingredient and Packaging Supplier Quality program for Global and North America suppliers. The role executes audit schedules for approved ingredient and packaging suppliers, bulk tanker wash stations, and ingredient warehouses. This position conducts supplier and facility assessments to ensure compliance with government regulations, industry standards, and company supplier quality management policies.

The role includes preparing and submitting audit reports, following up on corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), reviewing supplier documentation, and managing the overall ingredient and packaging approval program. The Senior Specialist also supports quality issue resolution, communicates regulatory changes, and consults with suppliers and manufacturing facilities on food safety, quality, and compliance matters.

Responsibilities

  • Audit ingredient and packaging suppliers, bulk tanker wash stations, and ingredient warehouses through Food Safety, Sanitation, and Quality Systems Assessments
  • Review supplier programs and procedures to ensure compliance with government regulations and company quality policies
  • Manage scheduling and coordination of supplier facility assessments
  • Conduct risk assessments based on audit history and supplier documentation
  • Review third-party audit reports and supplier information to verify ingredient and packaging programs
  • Support Quality Design Reviews (QDRs), including specification writing and editing
  • Manage ingredient and packaging quality issue follow-up and resolution involving suppliers, procurement, and manufacturing sites
  • Ensure corrective and preventive actions are completed following assessments and incidents
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory enforcement, food safety trends, pest control regulations, and updates to PEP and HACCP policies

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Ability to represent Hershey in interactions with external partners
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations
  • Ability to organize, schedule, and conduct domestic and international travel
  • Willingness to travel up to 60%, including possible weekend travel
  • Thorough knowledge of FDA regulations, HACCP, GMPs, and quality design principles
  • Ability to troubleshoot quality systems using company-wide resources
  • Understanding of diverse manufacturing processes, including: Dairy, Sweeteners, Confectionery, Cereal, Tree nuts and ground nuts, Raisins, flour, baking, and warehousing
  • Knowledge of packaging operations and packaging material applications
  • Self-motivated and proactive working style
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Passport required or ability to obtain one
  • Ability to climb ladders and maneuver around equipment
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in desktop software packages

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or equivalent (Microbiology preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of Quality Assurance Specialist experience or equivalent food industry QA experience
  • Experience working with ingredient and packaging suppliers is highly desirable
  • Auditing experience preferred
