Position Summary

The QC Scientist I – Microbiology supports manufacturing operations through chemical, physical, and microbiological quality control testing in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The role involves testing raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, and stability samples using advanced analytical techniques. The position contributes directly to product release decisions and the delivery of safe, effective pharmaceutical products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological and bioanalytical testing, including sterility testing, bacterial endotoxin testing, particulate matter analysis, membrane filtration, TOC, and conductivity testing
  • Generate valid analytical data and document testing procedures and results in accordance with cGMP requirements
  • Compare laboratory results against specifications and collaborate with Quality Assurance and Management on investigations, repeat testing, or OOS determinations
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and cleanliness; report issues to supervision
  • Execute assigned testing activities to meet customer timelines
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to improve efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness
  • Perform all duties in strict compliance with safety guidelines, SOPs, GMP, and GLP requirements

Qualifications for Microbiology Jobs

  • Bachelor’s degree required; no prior experience required
  • Preferred fields of study include Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or related scientific disciplines
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Experience with microbiological identification, environmental monitoring, aseptic techniques, and testing preferred
  • Knowledge of GMP regulations, documentation practices, and pharmaceutical quality standards
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow standard procedures and maintain data integrity
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and laboratory information systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, or holidays as needed

Environmental & Physical Requirements

  • Laboratory environment with adherence to GMP safety standards
  • Required use of PPE including safety glasses, lab coat, gloves, gowning, and respirators as needed
  • Ability to stand for full shifts and lift up to 40–50 lbs
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for prolonged laboratory and computer work
  • Ability to work in cleanroom environments
