Role Overview
The Associate Scientist (Clinical Assay) supports Pfizer’s mission to deliver breakthroughs that transform patients’ lives. This role sits within Research and Development and contributes to vaccine clinical development through the design, execution, and analysis of immunological assays. The position integrates scientific expertise with operational rigor to support clinical and toxicology studies while ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and conduct immunological assays in support of vaccine clinical development in compliance with GCLP requirements
- Present progress updates on assay development and sample analysis to colleagues and senior management
- Collect and analyze data to support troubleshooting, assay qualification, and laboratory projects
- Perform critical data review of clinical and nonclinical datasets
- Execute sample testing and analysis for toxicology and clinical trials
- Collaborate effectively within the team and contribute to building group capabilities
- Maintain compliance with departmental and corporate training requirements
- Organize work efficiently to meet deadlines and apply appropriate technical skills
- Maintain detailed inventories of freezer reagents, including controls, proficiency panels, toxins, and reference standards
- Ensure timely preventive maintenance and proper care of qualified laboratory equipment, including coordination of service requests, documentation, and readiness for uninterrupted assay operations
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS degree with 0–2 years of laboratory experience in a relevant scientific field, gained in an academic or industrial setting
- Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing, Excel, PowerPoint, and relevant scientific software
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in pharmaceutical or biotech drug discovery
- Experience working in a BSL-2 laboratory environment, including handling viruses in compliance with biosafety and regulatory guidelines
- Experience developing and troubleshooting bioassays assessing antibody functionality
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and charting
- Experience using GraphPad Prism and Excel for biological data analysis and visualization
- Experience with laboratory robotics and automated liquid-handling systems
- Experience using common AI tools, including generative technologies such as ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot, to support problem solving
Physical and Work Requirements
- Work is primarily performed at a laboratory bench or office desk using a computer
- May involve lifting loads generally not exceeding 20 pounds
- Occasional weekend or evening work may be required to meet critical business timelines
Compensation and Benefits of Scientist Jobs
- Annual Base Salary Range: $60,200 – $97,500 (USD)
- Eligible for Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of base salary
