Position Summary
The Summer Intern – Biosciences R&D will work within an agile Research & Development environment focused on evaluating microbial identification technologies, including Spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometry, and DNA Sequencing systems.
The internship provides hands-on experience in experimental design, execution, data analysis, and interpretation, contributing to assessments of product performance and operational efficiency. The intern will collaborate closely with R&D team members in a dynamic, fast-paced research setting.
The internship duration is a minimum of 12 weeks between May and August.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, executing, and analyzing R&D and/or Operations experiments, including evaluating data trends
- Contribute to early-stage and late-stage R&D initiatives across multiple scientific disciplines and platforms
- Perform subculturing of bacterial and fungal isolates using proper aseptic techniques
- Prepare media, reagents, and laboratory materials
- Prepare biological samples for downstream analysis using Mass Spectrometry and DNA Sequencing platforms, including Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)
- Maintain accurate, organized documentation to ensure data integrity and compliance with internal quality standards
- Compile and present experimental data and results clearly and concisely
- Perform routine laboratory tasks, including equipment upkeep, cleaning, and adherence to laboratory safety protocols
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, or a related field
- Completion of sophomore year with a GPA of 3.0 or above
- Exposure to scientific or research environments preferred (undergraduate research experience is a plus)
- Ability to manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
Compensation
The pay range for this position is $20.00–$21.00 per hour. Compensation within this range is determined based on experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
