Research Associate Position Overview
The Research Associate – R&D assists with experimental design, conducts experiments, and analyzes data to support new product and service development within the Microbial Solutions division. The role contributes to research activities, laboratory operations, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct experiments related to Microbial Solutions products and services in the R&D department
- Review and analyze experimental data and prepare summaries with detailed record keeping
- Present experimental results to internal and external stakeholders
- Use scientific literature to design and troubleshoot R&D projects
- Support responses to questions from customers, QA, operations, and field-support teams
- Maintain microbial isolate freezer stocks for assigned projects
- Maintain laboratory equipment through routine maintenance, repair, and cleaning
- Purchase and manage laboratory supplies
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards, safety SOPs, and MSDS guidelines
- Assist in developing and reviewing controlled documents such as Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, and Specifications
- Support training of junior or newly hired R&D staff
- Perform additional related duties as assigned
Education
Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific field
Experience
0–3 years of industry experience in a related field
Technical Knowledge
- Understanding of microbiology and molecular biology principles
- Experience with techniques such as:
- Aseptic technique
- Microbial cell culture
- Genomic DNA/RNA extraction
- DNA sequencing
- PCR
- Spectroscopy and/or mass spectrometry
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and phylogenetic analysis
- Experience with microbial identification technologies
- Ability to analyze experimental data using Microsoft Excel or similar software
- Experimental design knowledge
