Quality Control Job Overview

The Quality Controller / Assurance I role at the Malmesbury Mill supports quality assurance and food safety operations within the production environment. The position focuses on verifying production documentation, conducting quality control checks, and ensuring compliance with food safety standards. The role contributes to maintaining product quality and supporting operational excellence across milling and packing lines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify and sign off production and quality documentation, ensuring all non-conformances are identified and reported.
  • Conduct online quality control checks in the mill and packing lines.
  • Perform daily laboratory equipment verification and calibration.
  • Assist in food safety awareness training across departments.
  • Support employee induction training programs.
  • Assist with customer complaint investigations and corrective actions.
  • Conduct daily GMP inspections and complete compliance reports.
  • Support sampling of water, raw ingredients, and final products for monthly and annual testing.
  • Update microbiological testing schedules and review laboratory results.
  • Report food safety and quality deviations to the Quality Supervisor.
  • Participate in food safety (FS) meetings when required.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Support management of Prerequisite Programs (PRPs) in line with the PRP program.
  • Prepare and complete Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for customers.
  • Contribute to the Near Miss reporting program to improve workplace safety.
  • Assist with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and coordinate with the Pest Control Officer.

Required Qualifications

  • Relevant degree or diploma in a Science-related field.
  • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS).
  • Good computer literacy, particularly with MS Office (Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • 1–2 years of experience in a Quality Control or Quality Assurance role.
  • Willingness to work shifts in a production environment.
