The Technical Support – Plant Molecular Biology role supports the Desert Life Sciences Laboratory at ICBA in both field and laboratory activities focused on the genetic improvement of quinoa and other crop plants.
The position involves molecular biology laboratory work, sequencing preparation, genotyping of breeding populations, and laboratory management activities to ensure efficient research operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform high molecular weight DNA and RNA extraction from field-grown crops for sequencing and genetic analysis.
- Design primers for molecular biology assays.
- Conduct genotyping of breeding populations using various molecular markers.
- Prepare sequencing libraries and assist in sequencing workflows.
- Maintain and manage the Desert Life Sciences Laboratory, ensuring equipment functionality and compliance with safety protocols.
- Compile experimental data and prepare technical reports.
- Optimize and validate primers for InDel markers and other genomics assays.
- Provide quality control support for sequencing tasks and coordinate sequencing-related activities.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness, safety compliance, and equipment upkeep.
- Maintain laboratory records and documentation.
