Microbiologist Role Overview
The Senior Microbiologist provides scientific expertise to support the development of safe, high-quality ice cream products. The role contributes to innovation programs by delivering microbiological insights and solutions that support product development, supply chain processes, and quality assurance.
The position operates within the Global Scientific Affairs function, which integrates expertise across Food Safety, Regulatory Affairs, and Nutrition to ensure products are safe-by-design and compliant with relevant regulations.
The Global RD&I Microbiology team supports innovation through the integration of microbiology and processing knowledge to design safe and stable product formulations and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
Microbiological Expertise
Provide microbiological expertise to R&D product developers, quality teams, and supply chain functions.
Data Analysis and Reporting
Deliver end-to-end microbiological science support, including:
- Statistical data analysis and visualization
- Interpretation and presentation of results
- Reporting findings to relevant stakeholders.
Risk Assessment
Support microbiological risk assessments to ensure the safety and stability of new product and process designs.
Method Development
Identify and adapt new methodologies, processes, and procedures that support future-ready microbiological data science.
Scientific Knowledge Development
Stay updated on emerging insights in food preservation systems, including:
- Hurdle technology
- Natural antimicrobial solutions.
Experimental Design
Provide technical expertise in the design of microbiological experiments to support innovation programs and ensure data robustness.
Documentation and Knowledge Transfer
Provide technical input for Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) documentation and training materials to maintain product and process design knowledge.
Qualificational Requirement for a Microbiologist Job
Preferred: MSc or higher in:
- Food Microbiology
- Food Safety
- Food Science and Technology (with microbiology focus)
Considered: BSc with relevant food industry experience.
Experience
Proven experience in applied or industry microbiology roles within the food sector.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong communication and influencing skills with fluent English (written and spoken).
- Ability to present and defend scientific positions to internal and external stakeholders such as:

- Third-party partners and co-packers.
