Laboratory Technician Role Overview
This Laboratory Technician (Student) role supports the Quality Assurance (QA) team to ensure the production of safe, high-quality dairy products. It’s a hands-on lab + plant role, combining microbiology, chemistry testing, and food safety operations.
This is an excellent entry-level / internship-style opportunity for students looking to build experience in food science, QA, and industrial lab environments.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
- Start up and shut down laboratory equipment and systems
- Calibrate analytical instruments
- Order and manage lab supplies
Sampling & Testing
- Collect samples: cheese, water, air, and environmental swabs
- Perform tests for:
- pH, fat, solids, moisture
- Bacteria, yeast, and mould
- Analyze pasteurized milk and whey samples
Microbiology & Food Safety
- Conduct microbial testing and environmental monitoring
- Perform plant swabbing (aligned with Health Canada requirements)
- Support food safety and quality investigations
Documentation & Reporting
- Record and communicate test results
- Review Certificates of Analysis (CoA) from suppliers
- Maintain logs for product control and release
Quality Assurance Support
- Assist in root cause analysis for quality issues
- Participate in daily operations meetings
- Ensure compliance with food safety, QA, and company policies
Educational Requirement for Laboratory Technician
- Currently pursuing or have completed a diploma/degree in:
- Food Science & Technology
- Biology
Experience (Preferred)
- Lab or microbiology experience is an asset
- Familiarity with QA lab operations
