Job Description

The Assistant Food Developer will join the Food & Drink Development team, focusing on beverages, desserts, and breakfast categories. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of key menu items by combining food innovation, customer insights, and brand strategy.

The role involves working within a team dedicated to creating and developing menu items that are appealing, innovative, and operationally efficient.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Assistant Food Developer will support the end-to-end development of food and drink products, from concept to launch, ensuring alignment with consumer expectations, operational feasibility, and brand standards.
  • Responsibilities include:
  • Creating product and supplier briefs based on marketing promotional plans
  • Developing products that meet consumer, operational, financial, and nutritional requirements
  • Supporting ideation, creation, and optimisation sessions for research and testing
  • Attending UK Chef Councils as part of the development process
  • Collaborating with Consumer Insight teams to design and execute research projects
  • Analysing research results and optimising products accordingly
  • Ensuring cross-functional alignment across Supply Chain, Food Safety, Operations, and Marketing
  • Preparing product recommendations for approval by the Food Development Manager
  • Managing projects through the Stage & Gate process to ensure timely delivery
  • Building product pipelines for assigned categories
  • Reviewing supplier capabilities and supporting initial production runs
  • Coordinating food showings and engagement sessions
  • Supporting operations testing for new products
  • Representing McDonald’s at media events as a brand ambassador when required

Qualifications (Candidate Profile)

  • The ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate:
  • A strong passion for food, flavour, and quality
  • 2–3 years of experience in food development
  • Experience in QSR, retail, FMCG, or grocery sectors (preferred)
  • A relevant degree or qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Innovation, Nutrition, or a related field
  • Strong project management and organisational skills (experience with Stage & Gate is advantageous)
  • A curious, confident, and logical approach to problem-solving
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
