Medical Editor Role Summary
The Medical Editor is responsible for producing high-quality scientific content for medical communications and medical education projects. The role involves close collaboration with team members to ensure deliverables meet client requirements, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
The individual will review, copyedit, and proofread a wide range of scientific materials, ensuring adherence to style, tone, and editorial standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and edit various content types, including manuscripts, reports, abstracts, presentations, posters, digital content, and other deliverables.
- Identify and correct grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors.
- Suggest improvements to enhance clarity, flow, and coherence of content.
- Proofread materials, including page proofs and typeset layouts through detailed line-by-line checks.
- Ensure adherence to appropriate style guides and tone.
- Review graphs, figures, and artwork for accuracy and consistency with style requirements.
- Maintain consistency within and across projects.
- Collaborate with editors, writers, scientific leads, designers, typesetters, and client services teams.
- Meet deadlines and manage workload efficiently under pressure.
- Participate in editorial meetings and contribute to workflow improvements.
- Manage time effectively to deliver projects on schedule and within budget, while communicating potential delays.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications

Essential
- Bachelor of Arts in English or Bachelor of Science in a Life Science.
- Experience as a copyeditor, technical editor, or proofreader, preferably in medical communications agencies or the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry.
- Strong command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation with the ability to improve written content for clarity and coherence.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring consistency and adherence to style guides.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proactive, flexible, and collaborative team player.
- Ability to work across diverse projects, styles, and therapeutic areas.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- High level of computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and EndNote, with the ability to learn new software quickly.
