Role Summary

The Bioscience Division is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic undergraduate intern to conduct research in areas including Genomics & Bio-analytics, Microbial & Biome Sciences, and Biochemistry & Biotechnology.

The intern will collaborate with a team of scientists, technicians, and students on diverse projects such as exposure science and biosample analysis, including method development, data acquisition, and data processing. The role requires contributing to multiple projects as needed, while demonstrating independence, attention to detail, and professional communication.

Based on performance and funding availability, there may be opportunities for extension through continued education or transition into other positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research within one of the Bioscience Division groups: B-GEN, B-IOME, or B-TEK.
  • Participate in group meetings and collaborate with team members.
  • Perform laboratory research, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Contribute to method development and experimental processes.
  • Report research findings to team members and mentors.
  • Assist in preparing peer-reviewed publications and grant proposals.
  • Attend seminars, networking events, and laboratory functions to expand knowledge and professional connections.

Minimum Requirements

  • General background in biology or analytical sciences.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Genomics & Bio-analytics
    • Microbial & Biome Sciences
    • Biochemistry & Biotechnology
  • Familiarity with laboratory practices and experimental design.
  • Competency in computer applications for word processing, data processing, and data visualization.
  • Ability to document work, record data, and follow detailed protocols.
  • Ability to present research findings clearly in written and oral formats.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong time management and task completion skills.

Education / Experience

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited institution.

Desired Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in publishing research and contributing to grant proposals.
  • Experience with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation.
