Chocolate Product Developer Job Description
The Chocolate Product Developer works at Mondelēz International, contributing to the mission of leading the future of snacking. The role involves delivering RDQ activities required to complete new product development, portfolio maintenance, and productivity projects, with an emphasis on meeting the desired consumer experience.
Working as part of a cross-functional team, the individual is responsible for executing development activities aligned with RDQ, marketing, and manufacturing requirements.
Key Responsibilities
With the support and guidance of a manager, the Chocolate Product Developer:
- Organizes and executes projects in line with RDQ, marketing, and manufacturing requirements while effectively communicating status and risks.
- Plans and conducts pilot plant and factory trials in accordance with good manufacturing practice and HACCP requirements.
- Performs development activities such as product shelf-life testing, designing for quality, and consumer test preparation.
- Writes technical reports involving analysis and interpretation of results, leading to conclusions and recommendations.
- Creates and maintains accurate consumer-led specifications.
Additionally, the role includes:
- Leading medium-sized reformulation projects across different chocolate category platforms in the area of flavours in Europe, adding value to products and eliminating consumer-irrelevant features.
- Supporting Procurement sourcing and business continuity projects, validating alternative limited flavour suppliers based on sensory and processability metrics.
- Cooperating with Subject Matter Experts to ensure flavour specifications deliver desired technical functionality, meet consumer sensory expectations, and are compatible with production lines.
- Running pilot plant trials and basic sensory validations to assess solution quality while continuously optimizing and improving.
- Challenging the status quo, demonstrating curiosity, optimizing formulas, and evaluating incoming ideas to ensure efficient R&D resource utilization.
- Working on flavour specification content aligned with industry standards and Mondelēz Specification Quality Standards.
- Collaborating within multifunctional project teams to successfully deliver solutions.
Requirements and Qualifications
The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong desire to grow their career and brings the following experience and knowledge:
- Educational background in food science, science, or engineering, ideally within a fast-moving consumer goods market.
- University degree in Food Technology, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of experience in the food industry.
- Experience working both independently and within teams under managerial guidance.
- Ability to prioritize and manage activities effectively.
- Proactive problem identification and independent solution implementation.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret data and reach clear conclusions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
- Consumer-focused mindset in development activities.
- Knowledge of chocolate, sensory analysis, PLM, specification management systems, and SAP is appreciated.
- Fluency in English is required; additional language skills (Polish) are beneficial.
- General knowledge of food manufacturing technologies and ingredients, along with technical curiosity and ability to operate or quickly learn pilot plant equipment.
- Strong project management and negotiation skills.
