The University of Melbourne is seeking a part-time Research Coordinator within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, Department of Infectious Diseases. This continuing role involves strategic coordination of complex national and international research funding portfolios while supporting globally impactful infectious diseases research.
Position Summary
The Research Coordinator supports Professor Sharon Lewin’s infectious diseases program by coordinating and expanding a diverse research portfolio. The role leverages biomedical expertise to drive funding success, streamline projects, and enable major international collaborations.
Key Responsibilities
The Research Coordinator is responsible for:
- Managing the end-to-end portfolio of grants, contracts, and budgets for a research team of approximately 25 staff.
- Coordinating the preparation and submission of Australian and international funding applications, including complex multi-partner and collaborative proposals.
- Overseeing project start-up, reporting, and compliance to ensure alignment with funder and University requirements.
- Providing strategic advice, tools, and training to researchers on processes, systems, and funding opportunities.
- Supporting departmental operations through high-level administrative coordination, stakeholder liaison, and organization of key meetings and planning activities.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate:
- Holds a PhD in biomedical science or a related health field.
- Demonstrates extensive experience preparing competitive grant applications to Australian funders, including NHMRC, ARC, and philanthropic schemes.
- Has experience managing complex research projects or programs, including budgeting, financial tracking, reporting, and compliance.
- Is proficient in University of Melbourne systems such as Workday, Cayuse, and major grant submission portals.
- Excels in prioritizing multiple deadlines in fast-paced environments with strong attention to detail.
- Collaborates effectively with researchers, clinicians, and partners across disciplines, institutions, and countries.
