Job Description
Gene Therapy Internship at Roche’s Gene Therapy Technical Development (PTCG) function focuses on the technical development and clinical production of breakthrough viral vector-based therapies – from early clinical phase through to market approval. The core mission is the development of safe, innovative, and effective therapies using state-of-the-art technologies across the entire value chain.
By joining Roche, you will become part of an expert team in Nucleic Acid Sciences and Manufacturing, focused on the development and production of plasmid DNA – a key element and starting material for cell and gene therapies. This makes it one of the most valuable internships in Germany for biotech students.
Qualifications
Gene Therapy Internship requirements include:
- Education: Currently enrolled in a degree program in Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or a related Life Sciences field
- Technical Skills: Theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in bioprocess development for E. coli fermentation and/or purification technologies for biomolecules. Experience in biochemical, molecular, or cell biological analytics is a plus
- Soft Skills: Curious, collaborative, proactive, and team-oriented approach
- Communication: Strong English language skills (both written and spoken)
- Requirement: Active university enrollment is mandatory
Key Responsibilities
Gene Therapy Internship responsibilities include working on the production, purification, and analysis of plasmid DNA:
- Process Development: Contributing to the development and implementation of new clarification and purification techniques, including independent execution of experiments, data interpretation, and thorough documentation
- Manufacturing Support: Assisting the supply of plasmids for R&D activities across the global Roche network
- Data Analysis: Interpreting results and presenting findings to the broader team
