Microbiologist Job Description
Microbiologist responsibilities in this microbiology job include performing, coordinating, and tracking microbiological testing for in-process and finished pharmaceutical products. The role also involves monitoring controlled manufacturing facilities and utility systems to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
The QC Microbiologist I will support laboratory operations by conducting microbiological analysis, environmental monitoring, and documentation activities according to cGMP requirements.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Microbiologist candidates applying for this microbiology job should meet the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or equivalent Life Science curriculum required
- One year of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, food industry, cosmetics, medical devices, or laboratory pathology preferred
- Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Ability to learn clean room technology and aseptic techniques
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

Physical Requirements
Microbiologist professionals working in this role must be physically able to:
- Wear laboratory protective gowning and PPE equipment including goggles, respirators, gloves, and face shields
- Maintain a clean-shaven appearance for respirator use
- Meet vision requirements including 20/40 near vision and color vision
- Occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds
Key Responsibilities – Microbiologist
Microbiologist duties include:
- Plan daily workload to meet laboratory requirements
- Conduct microbiological testing including Gram stain, microbial identification, LAL testing, growth promotion, microbial limits, and water testing
- Perform environmental monitoring activities inside sterile manufacturing areas
- Conduct air, surface, and personnel monitoring procedures
- Carry out water sampling throughout the manufacturing facility
- Log, read, and record samples and laboratory data according to compliance standards
- Calibrate and verify laboratory instruments
- Prepare microbiological media and laboratory glassware
- Operate autoclaves and laboratory equipment
- Document findings and report discrepancies from standards
- Communicate deviations or discrepancies to management
- Conduct daily chart readings and weekly chart changes
- Ensure all activities comply with company policies, health and safety requirements, and cGMP standards
- Maintain and analyze laboratory data and perform trend analysis
- Participate in assigned laboratory projects
- Perform additional duties assigned by management
