About Tufts University

Tufts University is a renowned institution located in Boston, Massachusetts, recognized for its commitment to research and education in the life sciences. The university operates in various disciplines, with a strong emphasis on microbiology and molecular biology. The faculty in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Biology (MBM) are dedicated to exploring the biology of microbes and their effects on human and animal hosts, making significant contributions to the field through rigorous research.

Microbiology Research Job Description

The faculty in MBM are united by a common interest in the biology of microbes, including bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites, and their effects on human and animal hosts. The microbial pathogens program studies microorganisms that cause infectious diseases, emphasizing rigorous analysis of these pathogens and the immune responses that restrict them. Program investigators direct detailed studies of pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi, and eukaryotic parasites. Research topics include structural analysis of virus entry, viral evolution, viral oncogenes, intracellular bacterial pathogens, and vaccine development.

The Miranda laboratory seeks to elucidate the molecular mechanisms governing community-level microbial interactions during infection and their impacts. This research involves the pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa and closely related bacterial species. The laboratory aims to investigate the evolution and function of bacterial social behaviors and virulence traits in infection niches such as ocular and chronic lung infections. A highly motivated Research Technician is needed to support this research focus. Under the close supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Technician will conduct various experiments following established procedures and protocols, including bacterial cell culture, phenotypic assays, PCR, and DNA/RNA extraction.
