Job Summary

The Entry Laboratory Science Professional will play a central role in executing a broad range of experiments aimed at uncovering molecular changes underlying pediatric heart failure and post-transplant physiology. This position involves utilizing human biospecimens from the IRB-approved Pediatric Cardiac Tissue and Blood Biorepository, with specimen collection and biorepository maintenance being central to the role.

Laboratory Science Jobs – Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as on-call personnel for the collection and processing of explanted cardiac tissue.
  • Systematically organize, catalog, and track cardiac tissue specimens to ensure accurate biorepository inventory.
  • Assist with the collection and processing of additional human biospecimens, including peripheral blood and thymus tissue.
  • Under the direction of the PI, screen patients for research study eligibility and enrollment.
  • Approach eligible participants/families and obtain informed consent in accordance with approved research protocols.
  • Accurately enter and maintain participant data in REDCap or other secure, IRB-compliant data platform.

Qualifications Required For Laboratory Science Jobs

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, genetics, or related field.
  • Substitution: An advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specific work experience in anatomy, physiology, molecular, biochemical, or cell biology techniques.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • Willing to work with pediatric human specimens.
