Job Description
The Wilson Lab at the University of Miami’s College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a Research Associate for an NSF-funded project. This position involves testing the hypothesis that mTORC1 acts as a master regulator of the aphid/Buchnera endosymbiosis. The University of Miami Research Associate will engage in laboratory-based work, focusing on microinjection and microdissection of aphids, while also maintaining the lab’s aphid colonies and host plants.
Eligibility Criteria for University of Miami Research Associate
- B.S. in biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or a related life science at time of hire.
- The ability to work with limited day-to-day supervision as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- At least one year of undergraduate research experience in a laboratory setting, or equivalent preferred.
- Standard molecular biology methods (nucleic acid extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis) preferred.
- Light or fluorescence microscopy preferred.
- Rearing or handling of insects or other invertebrates preferred.
- Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
