Research Technician Job Description

The Division of Pulmonary Medicine is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Technician I to join their team. This role is ideal for a recent graduate interested in gaining valuable research experience before pursuing further education in graduate, medical, or other health professional training. The laboratory’s focus includes investigating the molecular mechanisms of lung injury and repair, emphasizing epithelial ion channels, oxidative stress, and inflammation using primary human tissues, cell culture, and animal models.

Eligibility Criteria for Research Technician

  • 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience.
  • Requires little to no related experience for this position.

Required Skills

  • Previous laboratory experience through coursework or undergraduate research is preferred.
  • Interest in pulmonary biology, physiology, immunology, or translational biomedical research.
  • Exposure to or interest in emerging genomic technologies, including single-cell and spatial transcriptomic approaches, is desirable but not required.

Key Responsibilities

Research Technician Job Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist the scientific research team with the execution of tests and experiments.
  • Set up, operate, clean, and maintain lab instruments and equipment.
  • Prepare media, samples, solutions, specimens, and/or reagents as needed.
  • Perform testing and monitoring, gathering and recording research data.
  • Maintain detailed logs of experiments and organize experimental data.
  • Follow University safety policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform basic molecular biology and biochemical techniques (e.g., PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, immunofluorescence) after training.
  • Process human lung tissue specimens and culture.
