Bioinformatics Developer Job Description
The Bioinformatics Developer Job will play a crucial role in the maintenance and development of the DECIPHER platform, which is instrumental in rare disease discovery and patient diagnosis. This position involves working closely with a multi-disciplinary team to make the latest research data available for clinical use, enhancing tools for genomic medicine while positively impacting patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigating, assessing, and integrating molecular biology and phenotypic data from public resources.
- Deploying bioinformatics tools in the DECIPHER environment and analyzing genomic data.
- Designing, testing, and implementing data structures and user interfaces for genetic information.
- Supporting DECIPHER users by responding to bug reports and requests for new features.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to translate their requirements into feature specifications.
- Performing ad hoc analyses to investigate potential data issues.
- Liaising with EMBL-EBI groups and external collaborators to integrate resources with DECIPHER.
- Representing the DECIPHER project at internal and external meetings.
Eligibility Criteria Required For Bioinformatics Developer Job
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in biological, clinical, or computational sciences.
- Higher degree or equivalent experience in bioinformatics, software engineering, or computational sciences.
- Experience with bioinformatics standards and tools relevant to variant annotation.
- Proficiency in data manipulation languages such as R and Python.
- Familiarity with software development in JavaScript, preferably Node.js.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Required Skills
- Experience in managing and processing genomics data.
- Proficiency in designing and utilizing large-scale relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
