Research Officer Role at A*STAR: Job Description
A*STAR IDL is seeking a Research Officer to support laboratory research activities and manage mouse models. The successful candidate will play a vital role in both animal-related research and the daily operations of the laboratory.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualification & Field of Study: Candidates for this Research Officer role at A*STAR should hold a Diploma/Degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Biological Sciences, Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, Immunology, or a related field.
Min. Years of Experience: Candidates with at least 1 year of laboratory experience are preferred, but candidates with no experience may also apply, as on-the-job training will be provided.
Required Skills
- Experience in in vivo mouse and molecular work would be an advantage.
- General lab skills in molecular biology (PCR, RNA and DNA methods).
- Well-organised and detail-oriented.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work independently as well as a team player.
- Good spoken and written communication skills.
- A strong desire to constantly learn and acquire new skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and monitor the A*STAR IDL rodent colony in accordance with institutional animal care and welfare guidelines to support ongoing research activities.
- Support animal-related research activities, including animal handling, colony monitoring, breeding management, and record keeping.
- Assist with laboratory experiments and techniques, including PCR, qPCR, tissue processing, and other molecular biology procedures.
- Perform laboratory administrative and operational duties, to support the day-to-day operations of the platform.
- Manage laboratory inventory, monitor stock levels, and coordinate the procurement of consumables, reagents, and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety regulations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and biosafety requirements.
