Cytogenetic Technologist Trainee Job Description
The Laboratory Cytogenetic Technologist Trainee and Biological Science Trainee will undergo training to learn and perform human chromosome analysis on various tissue types under the direct supervision of a technologist. The role aims to equip the trainee with the necessary skills to obtain Cytogenetics Licensure.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs chromosome and FISH analyses of patient specimens under the direction of Cytogenetic Technologists.
- Conducts bench work (processing, culture, slide preparation, etc.) for chromosome and FISH analysis under supervision.
- Documents and monitors quality control measures in assigned section(s).
- Operates and maintains laboratory instruments.
- Assists in providing correct information on specimen requirements to clinical staff and directs inquiries to the Supervisor or Director.
Eligibility Criteria Required For Biological Science Trainee
- Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory, or biological science.
- Trainee License from the State of Florida required prior to start date.
- Ability to understand and communicate effectively with patients, considering age-specific and unique needs.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary for specimen preparation and clinical analyses.
Salary
Salary Range: Minimum $19.02/hour – Maximum $30.44/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility, including positions like Biological Science Trainee.
