Plant Protein Research Fellow Description
The Plant Protein Research Fellow will engage in the PROFEED project (Progressive Solutions for European Feed Autonomy through Sustainable Plant Protein Value Chains), a Horizon Europe initiative involving 15 partners across eight countries. The role focuses on applying advanced analytical methods to enhance European protein autonomy and develop sustainable feeds for pigs, poultry, and fish. Candidates should possess expertise in plant proteins, food or feed science, and in vitro digestion.
Eligibility Criteria
- PhD (or near completion) in Food Science, Food Technology, Animal Nutrition, Biochemistry, or a related field
Salary: £41,064 – £48,222 p.a. depending on experience
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on plant proteins, ingredients and animal feed formulations.
- Analyse protein composition, structure, functionality and nutritional quality.
- Develop and validate analytical methods for protein characterisation.
- Assess amino acid profiles, protein quality and antinutritional factors.
- Perform in vitro digestion experiments to evaluate protein digestibility.
- Analyse experimental data and compare findings with animal trial results.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and perform statistical analysis.
- Prepare research publications and present findings at scientific conferences.
- Collaborate with international research teams and project partners.
- Support laboratory safety, quality assurance and training of junior researchers.
