Job Description

Join a multidisciplinary team at the interface of cancer biology, immuno-oncology, systems biology and artificial intelligence. Projects aim to understand processes regulating metastatic progression of pancreatic and gastrointestinal cancers and to predict metastasis through integrated analysis of clinical data, molecular profiles and mechanistic models.

The principal duty is research. A central part is integrating data from primary tumour tissue, blood and pre-metastatic organs (such as the liver) to develop predictive models and advanced virtual human twins of the cancer patient, working closely with experimental scientists and clinical partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply methods for analysis of multimodal biomedical data from patients with pancreatic cancer and other aggressive tumour types, including statistical modelling, machine-learning and systems biology approaches to identify drivers of metastasis and treatment resistance.
  • Integrate data from primary tumour tissue, blood and pre-metastatic organs (such as the liver) to develop predictive models and advanced virtual human twins of the cancer patient.
  • Scientific writing and publishing.
  • Conference presentation.
  • Supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Teaching may be up to 20% of working hours.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) awarded by the time LiU decides to employ.
  • Degree no more than three years before the application deadline unless special grounds.
  • Doctoral degree must be from a higher education institution other than Linköping University.
  • PhD in systems biology, bioinformatics, data science, computational biology or closely related areas.

Experience: Postdoctoral (early-career; Freshers eligible as recent doctorates)

Qualification: PhD / Doctorate in systems biology / bioinformatics / computational biology / data science

Required Skills

  • Experience in at least one of: analysis of omics or other large-scale biomedical data; machine-learning and statistical modelling; mechanistic models of biological systems; Python, R or equivalent.
  • Organised, collaborative, effective cross-disciplinary communication.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.

Cancer biology and/or immuno-oncology knowledge is advantageous.

Salary

SEK 43,000 per month.

Additional Information

Optional 6–12 months abroad, funded by the Foundation.

Before year three, the postdoc may apply for an independent Foundation research grant of approximately SEK 500,000.
