Project Details

The fellowship is under the MushVax project (FAPESP opportunity Nº 9983; process 2025/15397-0). The work is part of MushVax at Butantan Institute.

Job Description

The fellow will contribute to development of fungal platforms for production of recombinant antigens for a multi-epitope vaccine against schistosomiasis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Genetic engineering and transformation of filamentous fungi.
  • Construction and characterisation of recombinant strains of Trichoderma reesei and Pleurotus spp.
  • Evaluation of antigen expression, secretion or surface display.
  • Optimisation of cultivation conditions.

Eligibility Criteria

Mandatory requirements:

  • PhD in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or a related field.
  • Experience in genetic transformation of filamentous fungi (particularly Trichoderma reesei and/or Pleurotus spp.).
  • Experience in bioinformatics applied to sequence analysis.
  • Experience in molecular cloning, vector construction and heterologous expression.
  • Experience in molecular characterisation of recombinant strains including PCR, sequence analysis and gene expression assessment by qPCR/RT-qPCR.

Required Skills

Desirable:

  • Fungal cultivation in bioreactors, cultivation-parameter optimisation and scale-up.
  • CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing.
  • Protein characterisation by SDS-PAGE, Western blot, ELISA or equivalent.
  • Microscopy, immunofluorescence or flow cytometry.
  • Immunoinformatics.

Salary

R$ 12,570.00 monthly plus a research contingency fund equivalent to 10% of the annual fellowship value.
