Job Description

New hires in office-based roles in the US & Puerto Rico will be required, subject to applicable law, to demonstrate that they have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or qualify for a medical or religious exemption to this vaccination requirement that can be accommodated without an undue burden to the operation. Our Research & Development Cardiovascular Discovery function at South San Francisco, CA, is seeking summer interns who will work collaboratively in a team environment at our state-of-the-art laboratories to establish in vitro and in vivo models to investigate novel targets and understand molecular mechanisms of disease and pathology. The interns will be responsible for accurate electronic notebook recording of experimental details and for analysis and interpretation of data used for internal or external scientific publications that may follow from the internship. Interns will have the opportunity to gain further knowledge and skillsets via refinement of laboratory skills, introduction to new experimental techniques, exposure to current challenges in discovery research, and perspectives on the practical aspects of drug development. In addition, the intern student will have an opportunity to present their research results in both oral and written formats. We seek intern candidates at all levels with strong academic performance, communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to work in a multi-functional environment.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled sophomore, junior, or senior students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Genetics or similar field; OR a currently enrolled graduate student pursuing a Master’s or PhD. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology or Genetics.:
  • Candidates must have completed at least two years of studies toward a bachelor’s degree by June 2022.
  • Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to (12) weeks from June – August 2022.

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Candidates should have a significant interest in drug discovery
  • Candidates should have basic laboratory skills and research experiences such as electronic notebook recording, molecular biology techniques, cell culture and/or data analysis  basic workup procedures, and safe lab practices.
  • Candidates should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
