Job Description

Our goal is to isolate a compound that is effective against a disease target. Our company’s Exploratory Science Center (ESC) in Cambridge provides a unique experience to contribute to our company’s drug discovery efforts at one of the earliest stages of the process.  To this end, we strive to create a fast-paced, nimble, and flexible environment of mutual respect, creativity, invention, and teamwork.  Co-op students will be part of a highly collaborative and innovative scientific culture with the ultimate goal of learning new biology, chemistry, and technology that drives therapeutic development. Students will be exposed to software engineering, immunology, microbiology, chemical biology, synthetic chemistry, and bioactive discovery both within our company’s Exploratory Science Center and other sites across the country.  With access to our company’s proven global R&D organization, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with talented and dedicated colleagues while developing and expanding your career.

This co-op position will involve the design, development, and implementation of a defective viral genome detection pipeline. The student will work in conjunction with a team of computational biologists, molecular biologists, and software engineers to learn to effectively detect defective viral genomes in biological samples, develop and utilize code, and work with biological data and analytical tools.

Co-op Position Commitment: 6 Months: January – June 2022

Required Education & Experience:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computational biology, microbiology, or a related field, OR a currently enrolled graduate student pursuing a master’s or PhD. in computational biology, microbiology, or a related field.
  • Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to (12) consecutive weeks beginning in January of 2022.
  • Candidates must have completed at least (2) years of studies toward a bachelor’s degree by January 2022.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the US

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Candidates should have familiarity with R or Python.
  • Candidates should have familiarity with HPC or AWS computing
  • Candidates should have familiarity with molecular biology and/or bioinformatics.
  • Candidates should have previous microbiology/virology experience.
  • Candidates should be highly passionate and driven to learn new skills.
  • Candidates should have strong collaboration and communication skills.
