Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in sterility assurance, microbiology, or validation in a regulated industry

Key Responsibilities of the Microbiologist:

  • Lead sterilization validation activities for EO, gamma, and other modalities
  • Perform dose mapping and audits per ISO 11137
  • Maintain sterility assurance programs aligned with ISO 13485, 21 CFR Part 820, and EU MDR
  • Review and approve sterilization and bioburden testing protocols and reports
  • Execute method validations for medical and non-medical device sterilization per ISO standards
  • Author SOPs, test procedures, and validation documents
  • Conduct microbiological testing including Bioburden, Endotoxin, Sterility, Growth Promotion, and Environmental Monitoring
  • Test non-conforming products to support QIR investigations and complaint processing
  • Investigate sterility deviations and implement CAPAs
  • Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing on new product development
  • Serve as SME during audits and regulatory inspections (FDA, ISO, Notified Bodies)
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ISO 11737, ISO 11135, and EU GMP Annex 1
  • Assist with contamination control strategies and facility monitoring
  • Support facility gowning program development
  • Train personnel in aseptic techniques, contamination control, and GMP practices

Skills Required for the Microbiologist Role:

  • Strong knowledge of sterilization methods and microbiological testing
  • Understanding of ISO, FDA, and EU regulations
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills
  • Experience in regulated industry environments
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments
