Position Overview

Alkermes, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Summer Intern to join the Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology (MCP) group within its Research Organization during Summer 2026. This laboratory-based internship is designed for students interested in gaining hands-on experience in in vitro pharmacology and small-molecule drug discovery, with a focus on central nervous system (CNS) therapeutic areas.

The intern will collaborate closely with experienced scientists to support biochemical and cellular assay development, experimental execution, and data analysis. The role offers exposure to modern plate-based assay technologies, automation platforms, and collaborative drug discovery research within an industry setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support biochemical and cellular assay development and execution
  • Assist with in vitro pharmacology experiments related to small-molecule drug discovery
  • Contribute to data collection, analysis, and presentation of experimental results
  • Gain experience with plate-based assay technologies and laboratory automation systems
  • Collaborate with scientists within the Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology group

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. program in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline
  • Relevant coursework or laboratory experience in biochemistry, cell biology, pharmacology, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques (e.g., pipetting, solution preparation)
  • Interest in drug discovery and in vitro pharmacology assay systems
  • Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn new experimental methods
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Exposure to plate-based assays (e.g., luminescence, fluorescence, HTRF, or similar technologies)
  • Introductory experience with cell culture or biochemical assays
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as GraphPad Prism or equivalent
  • Previous academic or industry research experience (internships, lab rotations, or thesis work)

Working Conditions

Hands-on, laboratory-based internship. Requires active participation in laboratory experiments.

Compensation
