Oxford Research Assistant Job Description
The Research Assistant in Ovarian Biology will join Professor Suzannah Williams’ reproductive biology research group at the University of Oxford. Funded by Children with Cancer UK, the position will contribute to the project titled “Improving Fertility Preservation for Female Cancer Survivors,” aimed at developing better fertility preservation approaches for girls undergoing cancer treatment. In this Oxford research assistant job, the project will investigate how immature ovarian tissue responds to cryopreservation, preconditioning, and post-thaw recovery using a sheep ovary model.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility Criteria for Oxford research assistant job include:
- First or upper second-class master’s degree (or equivalent) in reproductive biology, biomedical sciences, cell biology, biochemistry, developmental biology, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of ovarian biology and practical laboratory research experience.
- Ability to analyse and interpret scientific data.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Required Skills
- Experience in reproductive tissue culture, cryopreservation, microscopy, molecular biology, mitochondrial assays, or quantitative data analysis (advantageous but not essential).
Oxford Research Assistant Job – Key Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory experiments involving ovarian tissue processing, cryopreservation, thawing, and culture.
- Conduct histological, immunohistochemical, and molecular analyses to assess follicle health, mitochondrial function, and tissue viability.
- Contribute to microscopy, quantitative image analysis, and experimental data interpretation.
- Manage research activities within agreed objectives and maintain accurate laboratory records.
- Prepare figures and research summaries for laboratory meetings and journal clubs.
- Contribute to scientific publications and presentations at national and international meetings.
